NEWSLETTER No. 4 (English) 14th May, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------- International Democratic Education Conference IDEC 2005 Berlin July 30th - August 7th ----------------------------------------------------------- The 13th International Democratic Education Conference will take place in Germany in Berlin from 30 July to 7 August, 2005. There is detailed information on our web pages: -> http://idec2005.org/ 1. New web page for Part B (Humboldt University) 2. Programme details 3. Registrations 4. Report on support for travel costs 5. Donations and fundraising ----------------------------------------------------------- 1. New internet pages for part B (Humboldt University) For almost three weeks there has been a new web page for the public part B of the conference. It differs outwardly from the original page by the addition of ".de". It is intended principally for people coming to the open forum. It explains briefly what it is all about. Interested people will be led along a guided tour directly to registration. This page is in English and German. -> http://idec2005.de/ ----------------------------------------------------------- 2. Programme details The programme is gradually taking shape! There is now a timetable which will immediately be available on the web pages. By clicking on the relevant items you can find detailed information. -> http://idec2005.org/data.dl/plan_en/ Before we publish details of the programme we need more concrete suggestions for workshops, lectures and discussions. Anyone who wants to make a contribution is very welcome to make a suggestion. In order to make the process easier, we have produced a standardised email which will be sent out on request by the programme organisers. Please fill in this email and send it back to us. The contact person is Lou: -> lou.frizzi@idec2005.org There are ideas to be found here: -> http://en.idec2005.org/themes/ ----------------------------------------------------------- 3. Registrations Up to now participants from a total of 19 countries have registered. Almost 40% of all the registered participants are under twenty years old. That is very pleasing! Please make personal registrations soon via our internet site. People who do not register run the risk of not being admitted. At the moment there are still places available. You must fill in our online form, even if you have already announced your intention of coming by email or in some other way. If you are not sure whether you are already registered, you can find out from Anja (anja.kasper@idec2005.org). -> http://en.idec2005.org/registration/ ----------------------------------------------------------- 4. Report on support for travel costs On May 8 the time limit for applications for support ran out. A committee decided on financial support for 27 people from 7 countries. Not all applications could be granted in full. We hope you will understand. Thanks are due to the participants who registered themselves at the full price and to the foundations which are supporting us financially (see the logos on the web page). Most of our grants do not cover the financial needs of the applicants. We will publish the unmet requirements on our sponsorship page. -> http://en.idec2005.org/sponsoring/ In addition to that we would remind you of the list of ideas about how individual schools or individuals can raise funds for themselves. -> http://en.idec2005.org/fundraising/#2 ----------------------------------------------------------- 5. Many thanks for the donations We would like to express our gratitude for the first donations that have been received. Anyone who would like to contribute to the success of the IDEC is invited to look through our fundraising pages. -> http://en.idec2005.org/sponsoring/ -> http://en.idec2005.org/fundraising/ We take our leave and express a final hope that everyone who is involved will sign up for our newsletter and invite other people to do so as well. -> http://en.idec2005.org/newsletter/ Many comments from previous newsletters are still current, for example we still need help with publicity for the IDEC. Who else should we invite directly? What newspapers and what websites should include information about IDEC 2005? We look forward to your comments and assistance! Warm greetings from the steering group, Lorenz Terpe und Mike Weimann
