NEWSLETTER No. 3 (English) 18th April, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------- International Democratic Education Conference IDEC 2005 Berlin July 30th - August 7th ----------------------------------------------------------- The 13th International Democratic Education Conference will take place from July 30th until August 7th in Germany in Berlin. There is extensive information on our website: -> http://idec2005.org 1. Travel and Attendance Subsidies 2. Reduced Attendance Fee for Students 3. Topic Suggestions Needed 4. Frequently Asked Questions ----------------------------------------------------------- 1. Travel and Attendance Subsidies We are now offering a series of small subsidies for participants who cannot afford the journey or the attendance fee. We want to prioritise the participation of people with low incomes from economically weaker countries. In order to simplify the procedure, we are offering fixed subsidies which must be applied for. As part of each subsidy, the attendance fee for *one* participant will be waived. Groups as well as individuals are welcome to request any of the subsidy awards. If you require a subsidy, we ask for a short, informal request to be sent to info@idec2005.org before the 8th May 2005. The steering group will decide on the requests immediately after this date. The request (no more than 2 pages) should answer the following questions: - Who the applicants are and why the IDEC is important for them? - What are the estimated costs for the applicants to come to Berlin? - Why do the applicants need the subsidy? We will assign three different subsidies: 1) 16 subsidies of 250 Euro 2) 7 subsidies of 500 Euro 3) 4 subsidies of 750 Euro. ---------------------------------------------------------- 2. Reduced Attendance Fee for Students We have reduced the registration fee for students of democratic schools / educational organisations to *220 Euro*. For students who have already registered, we ask whether they want to take this offer up, retroactively. We hope that students who can easily afford the full amount will be happy to waive this discount. This supportive gesture would be handled as a voluntarily increased contribution. Some of the previously registered participants have already agreed to this. ---------------------------------------------------------- 3. Topic Suggestions Needed We have begun the detailed preparation of the program. To make this work we need as many offers from participants as possible. The IDEC is based on the discussions, workshops and lectures led by the participants. As part of a suggestion we would like; the title, a description of the event, and the names of those who are offering it. These offers are needed for part A (in the FEZ), but most especially for part B (in the Humboldt university). Topic Suggestions: -> http://en.idec2005.org/themes/ Please send your contributions to -> info@idec2005.org ---------------------------------------------------------- 4. Frequently Asked Questions We have created a page of answers to questions that have been posed to us. We hope that some of the questions that arise in your preparations for the IDEC will be answered here. We will update this list with further questions as they appear. - > http://en.idec2005.org/faq/ Finally, we hope and recommend that all prospective attendees subscribe to our newsletter and invite others to subscribe as well. Many points from past newsletters are still current, for example we still need assistance with the fundraising and with the publicity for the IDEC. The most important thing for us is to encourage the participation and cooperation of students and graduates from democratic education. If possible, please look again at the previous newsletters: - > http://en.idec2005.org/newsletter/ Please don’t forget to register! You must register, in order to participate in the IDEC. - > http://en.idec2005.org/registration/ With good wishes from the steering group, Mike Weimann
